Driver's License
Issue of a Driver's License
If you pass the driver's license exam, you will be issued a driver's license by the commissioner of a district police agency. (Article 85 (2) of the Road Traffic Act)
If you pass the driver's license exam, you must receive a driver's license from the commissioner of a district police agency or the Road Traffic Authority under whom you took your driver' license exam within 30 days after the date on which you passed. You must not drive before being issued a driver's license. (Article 77 (1) of the Enforcement Regulations of the Road Traffic Act)
- Your driver's license only takes effect when it is issued to you or your agent. Driving before being issued a driver's license is considered driving without a license. (Article 85 (5) of the Road Traffic Act)
- If you are caught driving without a license, you can be subject to incarceration for up to one year and/or a fine of up to three million won. (Article 152, Item 1 of the Road Traffic Act)
