Use of duty free shops
Exchange and refund of goods
How to exchange and get a refund
- A purchaser of duty free goods can exchange or get a refund of purchased goods through the international post or air/ocean freight (「Notification on Operation of Bonded Store」 Article 19 (1)).
- When a purchaser enters Korea with purchased goods and intends to request an exchange or refund, the purchaser should declare and deposit the item with customs (except in the case where the total price value of the item to be exchanged or refunded does not exceed an allowed value limit of tax exemption for personal effects), and can get arrangement for exchange or get a refund at a duty free shop at the departure area or at a downtown duty free shop after bonded transportation of the item. However, the exchanged item is delivered at a place of delivery in the departure area when the purchaser departs (「Notification on Operation of Bonded Store」 Article 19 (1)).
- All goods sold at duty free shops have their own numbers and the purchases of goods are reported to customs. Therefore, the item, color, and size cannot be changed once the order is completed.
Cancellation of an Order at Internet Duty Free
- A consumer who has purchased a duty free item on the internet may receive a refund or return it within seven days from the day he/she receives the product (if the contents of the goods, etc. are different from the contents of indication or advertisement, have been performed contrary to the contents of the contract, within three months from the day the goods have been supplied) by visiting the store or phone, or via e-mail (Article 5(4), Article 17(1), and 17(3) of the Act on the Consumer Protection in Electronic Commerce, Etc.).
In cases where purchased goods are not delivered due to a change in schedule, cancellation or delay of flights
- If goods are not delivered 5 days after arrival at the place of delivery, a list of items which are not delivered is reported to the head of customs (「Notification on Operation of Bonded Store」 Article 18 (1)).
- Goods which are not delivered can be delivered to a purchaser who is going to re-depart within thirty days, or the price of the goods can be refunded. The purchaser should inform the duty free shop of re-departure (「Enforcement Decree of the Customs Act」 Article 226 (3) 5).
