You can apply to change the details recorded in a passport.
Application to change details
- Individuals who have been issued a passport can apply for changes to the passport details, excluding the following information, at the Republic of Korea’s overseas diplomatic missions (referring to the embassies, representative offices, and consulates general of the Republic of Korea in other countries) or passport service agencies where changes can be applied for (see Articles 15 and 7 of the Passport Act and Article 2 of the Act on the Establishment of Diplomatic Missions Abroad of the Republic of Korea):
· Type of passport, issuing country, passport number, issuance date, expiration date, and issuing authority; and
· Name, nationality, gender, date of birth, and photo of the passport holder.

How to apply
- Those who wish to change details such as the old passport number and place of birth must attach a valid passport to the passport detail change application form (Article 22 of the Enforcement Decree of the Passport Act; Article 14(1) and attached Form 5 of the Enforcement Rules of the Passport Act).
- Upon receiving a passport detail change application, the Minister of Foreign Affairs must verify the resident registration card, etc., and the family relationship registration through the shared use of administrative information or computerized data managed by related administrative agencies (hereinafter “shared use of administrative information, etc.”). However, if the applicant does not consent to the verification, they must submit the relevant documents (meaning the basic certificate where the family relationship registration needs to be verified) (see Article 2-2(3) of the Enforcement Rules of the Passport Act; Article 14(2) of the Enforcement Rules of the Passport Act).
Payment of fees
- To apply for a detail change, you must pay a fee of KRW 5,000 at domestic passport agencies and USD 5 at overseas diplomatic missions (Articles 21(1) and 22(1) of the Passport Act; Article 39 and the attached Table of the Enforcement Decree of the Passport Act).
