Citizens of countries that have signed a visa waiver agreement with the Republic of Korea do not need to obtain a visa.
Countries with a visa waiver agreement
- Citizens of countries that have signed a visa waiver agreement with the Republic of Korea can enter without a visa (Article 7(2)2 of the Immigration Act).
- Citizens of countries with a visa waiver agreement can enter without a visa for purposes such as tourism or visits. If they intend to engage in profit-making or employment activities, they must obtain the appropriate visa (see the HiKorea website-Immigration/Residence Guide-Immigration Inspection-Foreigner Immigration Inspection-Visa-free entry for foreigners).
Method of entry
- Citizens of countries with a visa waiver agreement receive an entry inspection stamp on their passports or an entry inspection certificate. Here, the residency qualification and stay period corresponding to visa exemption (B-1) are indicated. For foreigners who are stationed in the Republic of Korea as subjects of diplomatic or official visa waiver agreements, the residency qualifications and stay period corresponding to diplomatic (A-1) or official (A-2) are indicated (Article 12(5) of the Immigration Act; Article 15(7) of the Enforcement Decree of the Immigration Act).
Temporary suspension of visa waiver agreement application
- The Minister of Justice can temporarily suspend the application of the visa waiver agreement for citizens of the agreement countries if deemed necessary for the maintenance of public order or for national interest (Article 7(3) of the Immigration Act).
