Consumer Safety Information
Electrical appliances and consumer products such as vacuum cleaners and pressure cookers must be certified for safety.
Safety certification
- The term "safety certification" refers to the act of certifying the safety of a product(s) after testing the product(s) and assessing the factory that produces the product(s). (Subparagraph 5, Article 2, 「Electrical Appliances and Consumer Products Safety Control Act」)
- Manufacturers (including persons who export products produced in a foreign country to the Republic of Korea) or importers of products subject to safety certification shall obtain a safety certification for each model of such products (referring to the type of a product with its own name, as prescribed by Ordinance of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy) from a safety certification agency, as prescribed by Ordinance of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. Products subject to safety certification
- Electrical appliances subject to safety certification: Electrical appliances specified and approved by Ordinance of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy as those for which potential hazards can be prevented by the acquisition of a safety certification, where it is judged that the structure, usage, etc. of such electrical appliances may cause hazards, such as fire or electrocution. (Subparagraph 10-a, Article 2, 「Electrical Appliances and Consumer Products Safety Control Act」 and Article 3(1), 「Enforcement Decree of the Electrical Appliances and Consumer Products Safety Control Act」)
※ Consumer products subject to safety certification includes wires, electric cleaning machine, and lights, which can be referred to in Subparagraph 1, Attachment 3 of the 「Enforcement Rules of the Electrical Appliances and Consumer Products Safety Control Act」. (Article 3(1), 「Enforcement Rules of the Electrical Appliances and Consumer Products Safety Control Act」)
- Consumer products subject to safety certification: Consumer products specified and approved by Ordinance of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy as those for which potential hazards can be prevented by the acquisition of a safety certification, where it is judged that the structure, materials, usage, etc. of such consumer products may harm the lives and bodies of consumers or cause damage to property or to the natural environment. (Subparagraph 10-b of Article 2, 「Electrical Appliances and Consumer Products Safety Control Act」)
※ Consumer products subject to safety certification includes gas lighters, Dutch ovens, and pressure cookers, which can be referred to in Subparagraph 2, Attachment 3 of the 「Enforcement Rules of the Electrical Appliances and Consumer Products Safety Control Act」.
