Issuance and validity term of ship sanitation certificates
Ship sanitation control exemption certificate
- When the captain or owner of the ship requests the issuance of a ship sanitation certificate, he or she shall submit an application and an annex to application to the director of the quarantine station (Article 21 (1) of the Enforcement Rules of the Quarantine Act).
- Where the captain or owner of a ship requests the issuance of a ship sanitation certificate, the director of the quarantine station shall conduct an investigation (refer to the ship sanitation control checklist) on whether the ship is contaminated with the pathogen of a quarantinable infectious disease or carries vectors of infectious disease and issue a ship sanitation control exemption certificate valid for six months if the ship is found to have not been contaminated with the pathogen of any quarantinable infectious disease and free from vectors of an infectious disease in such investigation (Article 27 (1) of the Quarantine Act and Article 21 (2) of the Enforcement Rules of the Quarantine Act).
- Where a ship returns to the place of shipment orthe quarantine inspection (Article 12 of the Quarantine Act) and quarantinemeasures (Article 15 of the Quarantine Act) cannot be performed for a specialreason, the director of the quarantine station may extend the validity term of the ship sanitation control exemption certificate orthe ship sanitation control certificate byup to one month (Article 27(4) of the Quarantine Act).
Ship sanitation certificates
- As a result of the quarantine investigation, if the director of the quarantine station determines that the ship is suspected of being contaminated with the pathogen of a quarantinable infectious disease or vectors of an infectious disease are suspected of inhabiting therein, the director shall entrust the disinfection agent to disinfect the ship or eradicate the vectors of the infectious disease and issue a ship sanitation certificate valid for six months (Article 27 (2) of the Quarantine Act and Article 12 of the Enforcement Rules of the Quarantine Act).
- If the captain or the owner of a ship who has disinfected or eradicated the vectors of the infectious disease under a disinfection order (Article 15 (1) 6 of the Quarantine Act) applies for the issuance of a certificate for the fulfillment of the order, the director shall issue a ship hygiene control certificate valid for six months (Article 27 (3) of the Quarantine Act).
Where the expiration date of a certificate expires, etc.
- The director of the quarantine station shall conduct a quarantine inspection for a ship with an expired certificate, a ship without a certificate, or a ship with a certificate, in which the necessity of reinspection is specified (Article 27 (5) of the Quarantine Act).
