Types of Unemployment Benefits
- Unemployment benefits are divided into job-seeking benefits and employment promotion allowances, and the types of employment promotion allowances include allowances for vocational ability development allowance, long-distance job search allowance andrelocation allowance. Job-seeking benefits
- Job-seeking benefits
· Job-seeking benefits can be paid if the insured worker who has changed jobs meets all certain requirements. (Body part of Article 40 (1) of the Employment Insurance Act)
- Job-seeking benefits extension (Extended training benefits)
· "Extended training benefits” refers to extra job-seeking benefits paid to eligible recipients whom the head of an employment center has required to participate in vocational skills development training etc. in addition to their specified number of days for which benefits are payable, for the period of days during which they have participated in the vocational skills development training, etc., and for which they have obtained recognition of unemployment. (Article 51, 52, and 53 of the Employment Insurance Act)
· The types of extension benefits include training extension benefits, individual extension benefits, and special extension benefits.
- Sickness benefits
· Sickness benefits unemployment benefits paid by the head of a job security agency in lieu of job-seeking benefits by the head of a job security agency at the request of a qualified person on the day he/she was unable to get a job due to illness, injury or childbirth after reporting unemployment. (Body part of Article 63 (1) of the Employment Insurance Act)

Employment promotion allowance
- “Employment promotion allowance” means the payment of vocational ability development allowance, long-distance job search allowances and relocation allowance to encourage reemployment.
- Vocational ability development allowance
· “Vocational ability development allowance” refers to unemployment benefits paid to an qualified recipient who participates in vocational skills development training, etc. required by the head of an employment center for the period of such training, etc. (Article 65 (1) of the Employment Insurance Act and Article 88 (1) of Enforcement Decree of Employment Insurance Act)
- Long-distance job search allowances
· “Long-distance job search allowances” refers to unemployment benefits paid to an eligible recipient who conducts a long-distance job search in accordance with guidance by the employment center. (Article 66 (1) of the Employment Insurance Act)
- Relocation allowance
· “Relocation allowances” refers to unemployment benefits paid to an eligible recipient who is required to relocate to take up a job or participate in vocational skills development training, etc. required by the head of the employment center. (Article 67 (1) of the Employment Insurance Act)
