Study Abroad by Ethnic Koreans of Foreign Nationality in Korea
Conditions of Study Abroad
- Ethnic Koreans of foreign nationality are foreign nationals and must have an immigration status which allows them to study or train in Korea (Paragraph 1 of Article 19-4 of the Immigration Act).
- The following individuals can be granted an immigration status, which allows study or training in Korea (Paragraph 1 of Article 10 of the Immigration Control Act and Article 12 and the attached Table 1-2 of the Enforcement Decree of the Immigration Act).

Eligible persons

Study abroad (D-2)

Persons seeking to receive education of a set course or engage in certain research at an educational institution or academic research institution of a class higher than vocational college

General training (D-4)

Individuals seeking to engage in education, training, or research at an educational institution, company, or organization which meets the conditions set by the Minister of Justice (however, individuals who receive wages greater than their cost of living from a training institution and individuals with D-2 or D-3 immigration status are excluded).
