Purchase of Health Insurance by Korean Nationals Residing Abroad
- A Korean national residing abroad with resident registration who stays in Korea for more than 90 days is eligible for health insurance in accordance with the National Health Insurance Act (Article 14 of the Act on the Departure/Entry and Legal Status of Overseas Koreans).
- A Korean national residing abroad who is staying in Korea shall qualify as a company-based subscriber, a regional subscriber, or a beneficiary (Paragraphs 2, 3 and 4 of Article 109 of the National Health Insurance Act).
National Pension
Registration for National Pension
- Korean nationals residing abroad who are residing in Korea and over the age of 18 and under the age of 60 are eligible for the national pension (Article 6 of the National Pension Act).
Lump Sum Refund on National Pension
- An individual who is or was registered for national pension and who loses his or her Korean nationality or migrates overseas can be issued a lump sum refund at his or her own request or at the request of a surviving family member (Subparagraph 3 of Paragraph 1 of Article 77 of the National Pension Act).
- A lump sum refund shall be in the amount of the contributions (for an employer-based subscriber or a former employer-based subscriber, contributions made by the subscriber are included) made by the individual who is or was registered for national pension plus interest (Paragraph 2 of Article 77 of the National Pension Act).
