Moving-in Report and Obtaining the Fixed Date
The householder shall file a move-in report with the head of a Si/Gun/Gu having jurisdiction over the new domicile within 14 days from the date he/she moves to the new domicile (Article 16 (1) of the Resident Registration Act).
- Any person who has failed to file a moving-in report within 14 days from the date he/she moves to the new domicile without good cause shall be punishable by an administrative fine not exceeding 50,000 won (Article 40 (4) of the Resident Registration Act).
It is advised to bring a written lease contract and obtain the fixed date when filing a moving-in report, so as to acquire the preferential repayment right for the security deposit for lease.
Registration for Modification of Motor Vehicle Address
Where the address of a motor vehicle is modified, the owner of the motor vehicle shall file an application for the registration for modification with the head of a Si/Gun/Gu within 30 days from the date such modification is generated (Article 11 (1) of the Motor Vehicle Management Act and Article 22 (1) of the Decree on Registration of Motor Vehicles).
- If the registered domicile of the owner of a motor vehicle is the main place of use of such motor vehicle (if the motor vehicle is owned by an individual, the owner's registered domicile), it is deemed that an application for the registration for modification is filed when a moving-in report for resident registration is submitted (Article 22 (2) of the Decree on Registration of Motor Vehicles).
- Any person who fails to file an application for the registration for modification shall be punished by an administrative fine not exceeding KRW 500,000 (Article 84 (5) of the Motor Vehicle Management Act).
Transferring to Another School
Transfer to a new elementary school
- Where any elementary school student intends to change schools due to a change of address, his/her guardian shall inform the school which he/she attends and the school to which he/she intends to transfer.
Transfer to a new middle school
- Any transfer to middle schools shall be restricted to middle schools in any school group to which the elementary school which makes places of residence a school district belongs, or in the middle school district. In such cases, the head of a district office of education shall allocate a middle school within 7 days from the date of receipt of application documents for change for school groups, and the head of a middle school in the middle school district shall permit such change for middle school districts (The main sentence of Article 73 (1) of the Enforcement Decree of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act).
Transfer to a new high school
- A transfer from a general day-time high school to another general day-time high school located in a standardized area shall be limited to where the place of residence of a person who wants the transfer is relocated from different school groups or City/Do, and the Superintendent of an Office of Education shall assign schools for him/her to transfer to (The former part of Article 89 (2) of the Enforcement Decree of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act and the Regulations of Districts Where the Superintendent of Education Conducts Admission Process).
