Vocational Rehabilitation Benefits

Definition of vocational rehabilitation benefits
- The term “vocational rehabilitation benefits” pertains to insurance benefits paid to persons who require vocational training to be reemployed among recipients of disability benefits corresponding to Disability Grade 1 through 12 (hereinafter referred to as "recipients of disability benefits") in the form of vocational training costs and vocational training allowances, and to business owners who retain employment of recipients of disability benefits in the form of return-to-work subsidies, vocational adaption training costs and rehabilitation exercise costs (Article 72 (1) of the Industrial Accident Compensation Insurance Act).

Types of vocational rehabilitation benefits
- Vocational rehabilitation benefits are divided into ① vocational training costs and vocational training allowances paid to persons who require vocational training to be reemployed, and ② return-to-work subsidies, vocational adaption training costs, and rehabilitation exercise costs paid to business owners (Article 72 (1) of the Industrial Accident Compensation Insurance Act).
Other Types of Support for Rehabilitation

Customized integrated service
- In order to help workers who have suffered an occupational accident (hereinafter referred to as "workers suffering from an occupational accident") return to work and society, the Korea Workers' Compensation & Welfare Service classifies "workers suffering from an occupational accident" according to the degree of difficulty in return to work and carries out timely, systematic customized integrated service encompassing medical care, rehabilitation and compensation services, and the customized integrated service is classified into "get my job back" service and general service (Article 2-3 of the Regulations on Operation of Customized Integrated Service for Workers Suffering from Occupational Accidents).

Start-up assistance
- The Korea Workers' Compensation & Welfare Service conducts a start-up assistance project for workers suffering from job-related injury under which the Service leases stores in its name to let them operate stores in order to enhance their welfare, including establishment of a foundation for their self-help [Article 92 (1)-2 of the Industrial Accident Compensation Insurance Act and Article 38 of the Regulations of Vocational Rehabilitation Affairs].

Support for medical rehabilitation (Aftereffect management)
- The Korea Workers' Compensation & Welfare Service operates the complications and aftereffects management system so that any person who develops complications, etc. or is likely to experience such symptoms due to the characteristics of their injury or disease after receiving disability compensation is able to receive medical treatment through a simple procedure (Article 77 of the Industrial Accident Compensation Insurance Act).

Support for social life
- In order to help workers suffering from an occupational accident return to society, the Korea Workers' Compensation & Welfare Service is carrying out a variety of programs such as psychological counseling, hope seeking program, social adjustment program, sports rehabilitation, hobby clubs, community resources-associated program, mentoring program for workers suffering from an occupational accident, etc. (Articles 1 and 92 of the Industrial Accident Compensation Insurance Act and Articles 1 and 2 of the Regulations of Support for Social Psychology Rehabilitation for Workers Suffering from Occupational Accidents).

Support for life
- In order to improve the welfare of workers suffering from an occupational accident and their survivors, the Korea Workers' Compensation & Welfare Service is carrying out scholarship projects for the workers and their children and offering a loan to the workers for the stabilization of their livelihood and a student loan to the workers and their children (Subparagraph 2 of Article 92 (1) of the Industrial Accident Compensation Insurance Act and Article 1 and 3 of the Regulations of Support for Life of Workers Suffering from Occupational Accidents).
