Criteria for payment of long-distance job search allowances
- An eligible recipient may receive long-distance job search allowances if he/she meets the following requirements. (Article 66(1) of the Employment Insurance Act; Article 89 of the Enforcement Decree of the Employment Insurance Act, Article 111(1) of the Enforcement Rules of the Employment Insurance Act)
· Expenses spent for job-seeking activities are not paid by the employer of the workplace visited; expenses paid by the said employer are not sufficient to cover long-distance job-seeking activities.
· The distance between an eligible recipient’s place of residence and the prospective workplace visited is 50km or longer.
√ The aforesaid distance refers to customary distance. A waterway distance for this purpose is computed based on two times the real distance.
Computation of expense for long-distance job search allowances
- Long-distance job search allowances refer to customary expenses spent for such job search activities and shall be computed as follows: (Article 66(2) of the Employment Insurance Act, Article 111(2), (3), and (4) of the Enforcement Rules of the Employment Insurance Act)

- Where the prospective employer pays expenses associated with an eligible recipient’s job-seeking activities, the amount shall be deducted from what is stated in the foregoing table. (Article 111(5) of the Enforcement Rules of the Employment Insurance Act)
Application for long-distance job search allowances
- An eligible recipient applying for long-distance job search allowances shall submit a written claim for long-distance job search allowances, along with a certificate of eligibility, to the competent employment center. (Article 89(2) of the Enforcement Decree of the Employment Insurance Act, Article 112(1) and Annex Form 98 of the Enforcement Rules of the Employment Insurance Act)
- The written claim stated in the foregoing shall be submitted within 14 days from the end date of the long-distance job-seeking activities period. (Body part of Article 112(2) of the Enforcement Rules of the Employment Insurance Act)
· Provided, that if a natural disaster occurs or if any other inevitable circumstances exist, the application shall be filed within seven days from the date such cause or event ceases to exist. (Article 89(2) of the Enforcement Decree of the Employment Insurance Act, Article 112(2) of the Enforcement Rules of the Employment Insurance Act)
Method of payment of long-distance job search allowances
- Long-distance job search allowances are paid by depositing them into the account of the eligible recipient's designated financial institution. (Articles 89(2) and 75 of the Enforcement Decree of the Employment Insurance Act)
