Payment of individual extended benefits
Those eligible for individual extended benefits
- Eligible recipients may receive individual extended benefits if they meet the following requirements. [Article 52(1) of the Employment Insurance Act, Article 73(1) of the Enforcement Decree of the Employment Insurance Act, Notice on Requirements for Receiving Individual Extended Benefits among those Attending School (the Ministry of Employment and Labor Notice No. 2016-30 dated 7/4/2016)]
· An eligible recipient who has failed to land a job, although he/she has responded to jobs offered (including in-depth consulting or group consulting) by the head of the employment center at least three times between the day of reporting unemployment status and the end date of the period for payment of job-seeking benefits; one who has a dependent falling under one of the following categories
√ One aged less than 18 or more than 65
√ The disabled under the Employment Promotion and Vocational Rehabilitation of Disabled Persons Act
√ A patient requiring at least one month’s recuperation period
√ Spouse without a separate income
√ One attending a school under Article 2 of the Higher Education Act or one attending a graduate school under Article 29 of the Higher Education Act
※ Except for Korea National Open University or cyber university and the like, which people can attend while working
· An eligible recipient whose daily wage and the total amount of his/her and spouse’s property is lower than the following criteria [Notice for Wage and Property Criteria Concerning Payment of Individual Extended Benefits (the Ministry of Employment and Labor Notice No. 2015-64 dated 9/25/2015)]

Notes

1. Certificate of taxation on general property tax concerning each eligible recipient and spouse; the most recently issued one. Property tax is imposed in early June of each year 2. If you do not own a house/building, you need to submit a certificate of taxation on general property tax to that effect (“No tax imposed”).

Application for individual extended benefits
- An eligible recipient who intends to receive individually extended benefits shall file the following x-documents with the head of the competent employment center by no later than the end of the days eligible for job-seeking benefits. (Article 73(3) of the Enforcement Decree of the Employment Insurance Act, former part of Article 95 and Annex Form 89 of the Enforcement Rules of the Employment Insurance Act)
· Application for individual extended benefits
· Certificate of eligibility
· Materials certifying the combined size of property owned by the eligible recipient and spouse
Individual extended benefits’ period
- Individual extended benefits shall be paid for up to 60 days or less than that in accordance with the criteria set by the Ministry of Employment and Labor in consideration of the extent of repeated receipt of unemployment benefits in a given period of time. (Article 52(2) of the Employment Insurance Act, Article 73(2) of the Enforcement Decree of the Employment Insurance Act)
- Where individual extended benefits are payable, the benefit period of an eligible recipient shall be computed by adding the number of days of additional benefits payable to the regular benefit period of the eligible recipient. (Article 54(1) of the Employment Insurance Act)
Daily amount of individual extended benefits
- Daily amount of individual extended benefits shall be 70% of the eligible recipient’s daily amount of job-seeking benefits. (Article 54(2) of the Employment Insurance Act)
- If the computed daily amount of job-seeking benefits is lower than the minimum daily amount of job-seeking benefits, the minimum daily amount of job-seeking benefits shall be the eligible recipient’s daily amount of job-seeking benefits. (Article 54(3) of the Employment Insurance Act)
Adjustment of Individual extended benefits payment
Mutual adjustment of individual extended benefits payment
- Any individual extended benefits shall be payable after regular job-seeking benefits to which an eligible recipient is entitled to have been fully paid. (Article 55(1) of the Employment Insurance Act)
- No individual extended benefits may be payable to an eligible recipient currently receiving individual extended benefits until such extended training benefits have been fully paid. (Article 55(3) of the Employment Insurance Act)
- No individual extended benefits shall be payable to an eligible recipient currently receiving special extended benefits until such special extended benefits have been fully paid. (Article 55(4) of the Employment Insurance Act)
