Health Insurance of Foreign Nationals
- An ethnic Korean of foreign nationality who makes a declaration of domestic residence and stays in Korea for more than 90 days is eligible for health insurance in accordance with the National Health Insurance Act (Article 14 of the Act on the Departure/Entry and Legal Status of Overseas Koreans).
- A foreign national staying in Korea can qualify as a company-based subscriber, a regional subscriber, or a beneficiary in accordance with the National Health Insurance Act (Paragraphs 2, 3 and 4 of Article 109 of the National Health Insurance Act).
- A foreign national who falls under any of the following categories is not able to purchase health insurance (Paragraph 5 of Article 109 of the National Health Insurance Act and Article 76 of the Enforcement Decree of the National Health Insurance Act).
· Foreign national is staying in Korea without obtaining an extension of the period of stay in accordance with Article 25 of the Immigration Control Act and Paragraph 2 of Article 10 of the Act on the Departure/Entry and Legal Status of Overseas Koreans
· Foreign national has been issued a deportation order in accordance with Paragraph 2 of Article 59 of the Immigration Control Act
· Foreign national is an individual who fits the description in Paragraph 2 of Article 109 of the National Health Insurance Act and waives insurance as he or she is eligible for a medical allowance in accordance with the law, an insurance policy, or an agreement in a foreign country
