What is a livestock product?
- Livestock products include meats, packaged meats, raw milk, eggs, processed meats, dairy products, and egg products (Paragraph 2 of the Livestock Products Sanitary Control Act, Paragraphs 2 to 4 of Article 2 of the Enforcement Decree of the Livestock Products Sanitary Control Act, and 2. of Article 1 of the Enforcement Regulations of the Livestock Products Sanitary Control Act).
Management of Livestock Products
- The government operates systems such as the livestock product traceability system, HACCP, the standardized indication system, grade indication, and meat product labeling to support the sanitary control of livestock products through improved distribution and to achieve improved product quality and fair trade.
Standards of Livestock Products
- The standards of slaughter and milk collection are specified in the Attached Table 1 of the Enforcement Regulations of the Livestock Products Sanitary Control Act (Paragraph 1 of Article 4 of the Livestock Products Sanitary Control Act and Article 2 of the Enforcement Regulations of the Livestock Products Sanitary Control Act).
- The Minister of Food and Drug Safety can set and announce the following in the processing, packaging, preservation, and distribution of livestock products (Paragraph 2 of Article 4 of the Livestock Products Sanitary Control Act).
· Standards of processing, packaging, preservation, and distribution of livestock products (hereinafter referred to as the "processing standards")
· Specifications of properties of livestock products (hereinafter referred to as the "property specifications")
· Sanitary grades of livestock products
- Processing, packaging, preservation, and distribution of livestock products must take place in accordance with the standards, processing standards, and property specifications of the Standards and Specifications of Food Products. The same applies to livestock products imported for sale (Article 4(6) of the Livestock Products Sanitary Control Act).
Prohibition of the Sale of Non-standard Livestock Products
- Livestock products that do not meet the due standards, processing standards, and property specifications must not be stored, transported, or displayed for sale (Article 4(7) of the Livestock Products Sanitary Control Act).
- Violation of the above regulations is grounds for imprisonment of up to 3 years or a fine of up to KRW 50 million (Subparagraph 2 of Paragraph 4 of Article 45 of the Livestock Products Sanitary Control Act).
