What is an agricultural product?- Anagricultural product is the product of crop cultivation, livestock raising, forestry, and their related agricultural activities(Item A of Subparagraph 1 of Article 2 of the Agricultural and Fishery ProductsQuality Control Act and Item A of Subparagraph 6 of Article 3 of the FrameworkAct on Agriculture, Rural Community and Food Industry).
Management of Agricultural Products- The governmentoperates such systems as indication of origin, the traceability system,eco-friendly agricultural product certification, Good Agricultural Practices,geographic indication, and GMO agricultural product indication to control andimprove the quality of agricultural products while ensuring their stability,and promotes the transparent trade of agricultural products.
Standards related to Agricultural Products- The Ministerof Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs can set packaging specifications andgrade specifications of agricultural products to enhance the quality ofagricultural products, improve the efficiency of their distribution, andachieve fair trade (Paragraph 1 of Article 5 of the Agricultural and FisheryProducts Quality Control Act).
- Packagingspecifications include trade units, packaging measurements, packagingmaterials, packaging methods, packaging designs, and indications. Gradespecifications are selected items necessary for quality rating based on thecharacteristics of different categories or species of agricultural products,and include the even condition, form, color and gloss, freshness, dryness,defects, maturity and the quality ratings of top, high, and average (Paragraph2 and Paragraph 3 of Article 2 of the Standards of Agricultural Products)
Method of Shipping and Indication of StandardProducts- When shippingagricultural products that meet the standards, "Standard product" mustbe indicated on the outside of the packaging along with the ① product name, ② place oforigin, ③ product type, ④ production year (grains only), ⑤ grade, ⑥ weight (actualweight), and ⑦ name/phone number of the producer (Paragraph 2 of Article 5 of theAgricultural and Fishery Products Quality Control Act and Paragraph 2 ofArticle 7 of the Enforcement Regulations of the Agricultural and FisheryProducts Quality Control Act).
Prohibition of the Sale of Mixed Standard andNon-standard Products- Mixing ofagricultural products indicated as standard products with agricultural productsor processed agricultural products that are not standard products for sale,storage, or display is prohibited (Subparagraph 1 of Paragraph 2 of Article 29of the Agricultural and Fishery Products Quality Control Act).
- Violation ofthe above regulations is grounds for imprisonment of up to 3 years or a fine ofup to KRW 30 million (Item A of Subparagraph 2 of Article 119 of theAgricultural and Fishery Products Quality Control Act).
