Marriage Report in the Republic of Korea
General procedure for marriage report
In cases where a Korean national marries a Vietnamese national in the Republic of Korea, the parties to the marriage shall report their marriage according to the procedure prescribed in "Procedural Requirements for Marriage" of <General Information on International Marriage - Establishment of Marriage - Requirements for Marriage>.
- In order to prove that the Vietnamese spouse meets all the requirements for marriage prescribed by the laws of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, he/she shall submit the following evidential documents.
Submission of certificates required for formation of marriage
- When submitting a marriage report, the parties to a marriage shall attach the following documents proving that the Vietnamese spouse meets the requirements for marriage prescribed by the laws of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
1. A marriage prerequisite certificate issued by the Vietnamese ambassador or a consul in South Korea (Form 9 of the Guideline for Administrative Process of Marriage between a Korean National and a Vietnamese National)
2. Documents proving the Vietnamese spouse's nationality (certified copy of the family relation register, birth certificate, copy of passport, etc. by the laws of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam) and their translations in Korean
- In accordance with the Marriage and Family Law of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the marriageable age is 20 years old for men and 18 years old for women. If a Vietnamese national is younger than the marriageable age as of the day of the report, the marriage report cannot be accepted even though the marriage consent prepared by his/her parents, etc. is submitted.
