Countermeasures for smishing damages
Correction request of using telecommunications billing services
- When a user of telecommunications billing services discovers that the telecommunications billing services have been rendered against his or her will, the user may request the provider of telecommunications billing services to make corrections (excluding where there is an intentional act or negligence on the part of the user of the telecommunications billing services), and where the provider of telecommunications billing services finds that the user's request for correction is reasonable, the provider has to withhold the payment of the price for use to a seller and should notify the user of the results thereof within two (2) weeks from the date of the request for correction (Article 58(3) of the “Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection”).
- A person who violates the above legislation and fails to notify the user of telecommunications billing services of the results of the measures taken in response to a request of the user or fails to preserve records of telecommunications billing services will be imposed with a penalty of no more than 10 million won (Subparagraph 19 and Subparagraph 20 of Article 76(3) of the “Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection”).
Mobile phone micropayment damage relief method
- If you received text message suspicious of smishing
· You should report to the cybercrime report system of the National Police Agency (ECRM) (https://ecrm.cyber.go.kr/☎182), and request the relevant customer service (☎114) of your mobile carrier for shutdown of micropayment service to prevent a micropayment that you do not know of.
- If a micropayment damage has incurred
· Confirm and cancel mobile payment
· Report damages
√ The “accident and incident fact confirmation” issued by the police station should be submitted to the mobile carrier, game company, payment agent, and other related businesses, and the fact of damage should be reported.
· Delete malignant files
√ If the malignant file cannot be delete, (1) visit a mobile phone service center or (2) reset your smartphone.
· Discard and re-issue common certificate (former certificate)
