Establishment and operation of quarantine stations
Establishment of quarantine stations
- National quarantine stations (hereinafter “quarantine stations”) shall be established and operated at airports, ports, railway stations, and land-border crossings to prevent the spread of quarantinable infectious diseases in the Republic of Korea and overseas and safely protect the health of citizens (Article 29-7 (1) of the Quarantine Act).
- The quarantine station shall be furnished with facilities (necessary for monitoring and isolation) and equipment (necessary for performing quarantine duties such as visual data processing devices, electronic detectors, etc.) that comply with the standards (Article 29-9 of the Quarantine Act and Article 25-6 of the Enforcement Rules of the Quarantine Act).
Functions and duties of quarantine stations
- The quarantine stations shall carry out the following functions and duties (Article 29-8 of the Quarantine Act and Article 29-5 of the Enforcement Rules of the Quarantine Act).
· To provide quarantine services for the prevention of the introduction of quarantinable infectious diseases to the Republic of Korea and the spread thereof overseas
· To conduct epidemiological investigations of arriving passengers who have symptoms of quarantinable infectious diseases
· To have a patient of a quarantinable infectious disease, etc. or a contact of a patient of a quarantinable infectious disease, etc. isolated or quarantined and conduct diagnostic tests
· To provide health and sanitation control in quarantine areas
· To provide preventive education and campaign about quarantinable infectious diseases
· Other management of quarantine statistics and quarantine information concerning quarantine, operation of facilities necessary for isolation in the quarantine station, and internal and external cooperation with quarantine agencies
