Legal aid
Eligibility for legal aid
- Victims of domestic violence (including women of foreign nationality residing in Korea; hereinafter referred to as “victims”) are eligible to apply for free legal aid for criminal cases in addition to civil and domestic cases in relation to domestic violence (Article 7 (2) 11 of the “Legal Aid Act” and Article 4 (3) 6 of the “Enforcement Decree of the Legal Aid Act”).
Application for free legal aid
- Any person who wishes to receive free legal aid should file an application with the Korea Legal Aid Corporation (https://www.klac.or.kr), the Korea Legal Aid Center for Family Relations (https://www.lawhome.or.kr), or the KBA Legal Aid Foundation (https://www.legalaid.or.kr).
- By submitting one or more supporting pieces of evidence, victims of domestic violence may receive counseling or receive legal aid for civil cases, family litigation cases, or criminal cases of domestic violence.
· Supporting evidence of the victim receiving counseling for his/her case of domestic violence (to be issued by a domestic violence agency or protective facility)
· Medical certificate (Medical certificate confirming the necessity of more than 2 weeks of treatment due to injury caused by domestic violence)
· Copy or receipt, etc. of the letter of complaint
