Livestock HACCP
What is livestock HACCP?
- Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (hereinafter referred to as HACCP), in accordance with the Livestock Products Sanitary Control Act, prevents the contamination of livestock products at the different stages of raw materials management, production, processing, cooking, division, distribution, and sale of livestock products through the identification, assessment, and critical management of hazards at each stage (Article 9 of the Livestock Products Sanitary Control Act and Subparagraph 1 of Article 2 of the (HACCP of Food Products and Livestock Products).
Eligibility for HACCP
- HACCP is applied to parties who receive a permit or make a declaration or registration in accordance with the Livestock Products Sanitary Control Act, businesses and agriculturalists registered for livestock business in accordance with the Livestock Industry Act and who must adhere to HACCP, and any other businesses seeking to adhere to HACCP (main content of Article 3 of HACCP of Food Products and Livestock Products).
- However, HACCP can be applied to manufacturers and processors of livestock based overseas and to livestock importers, should they seek to adhere to HACCP (start of Article 3 of HACCP of Food Products and Livestock Products).
Application of HACCP
- HACCP is applied to food and livestock products that require HACCP in accordance with the Livestock Products Sanitary Control Act and the Enforcement Regulations of the Livestock Products Sanitary Control Act. If required, HACCP can also be applied to other businesses or products (main text of Article 4 of HACCP of Food Products and Livestock Products).
- However, businesses that produce food products that are distributed only within the islands they are located on and businesses that export all of their produced food products are excluded (start of Article 4 of HACCP of Food Products and Livestock Products).
Application for Certification by HACCP Businesses
- A party seeking certification of a HACCP operation, business, or farm shall submit attached Form 1-3 of the Enforcement Regulations of the Livestock Products Sanitary Control Act (Application for Certification as a HACCP Operation, Business, or Farm [online version included]), with a plan on the operation of HACCP of the operation, business, or farm for which the application is made attached, to the head of Korea Agency of HACCP Accreditation & Service (main text of Article 10 (2) of HACCP of Food Products and Livestock Products).
- A party seeking certification as a HACCP business shall submit the Attached Template 1-4 of the Enforcement Regulations of the Livestock Products Sanitary Control Act (Application for Certification as a HACCP Business [online version included]), with the documents referenced in Items 1 to 5 of Paragraph 4 of 3. of Article 7 of the Enforcement Regulations of the Livestock Products Sanitary Control Act attached, to the head of Korea Agency of HACCP Accreditation & Service (main content of Paragraph 3 of Article 10 of HACCP of Food Products and Livestock Products).
